Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte has said that the government would issue an ordinance to extend the deadline to legalise illegal structures on private lands that existed on or before February 28, 2014. The deadline is expected to be extended by a month from the date of issuance of the ordinance.
Khaunte said that only the applications of owners of those structures who have paid scrutiny fee of Rs 10,000 will be scrutinised and legalised if everything is found correct as per the norms laid down in the Act. The owners whose houses are regularised will have to pay the relevant fees and get government approval.
He, however, said that taking cognizance of the people’s demand that the deadline be extended as some of them were not aware of the government move, the state administration is contemplating to issue ordinance to extend the deadline so as to enable them to apply and pay the requisite fees.
“We were hoping to discuss the issues relating to regularisation of the illegal constructions in the budget session of the assembly but since the session was cut short due to sickness of the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, we have proposed to issue ordinance to extend the deadline,” he said. He said fee slabs have already been decided as per the location of villages and structures are concerned. Those whose houses are regularised would have to pay fees as calculated by the authorities.
Khaunte said that the government has proposal to regularise houses only on private land. The issue of regularisation of illegal houses on comunidade and government land would be taken up in the next session of the state assembly, he added.
