The Meteorological office predicts heavy rainfall accompanied by winds with speeds of 40 to 60 kmph and high waves in south Kerala and Lekshadweep coast for the coming 48 hours. Warning has been issued to the fishermen not to venture into the sea for two days.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the administration is in constant touch with the weather, disaster management offices and naval forces. Two control rooms has been set up in Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram.

Lakshadweep authorities reported to have done all necessary precautionary measures. On the wake of the alert it is reported that many fishing boats ad returned back to the coast in kerala and lakshadweep.

Many parts of Kerala had started receiving scattered rainfall since yesterday evening in the scorching summer.

The alert comes in the backdrop of Ochki cyclone that hit the coasts of the state, neighbouring Tamil Nadu and union territory of Lakshadweep in November-December last year, claiming the lives of several fishermen and leaving many missing.
