Chennai: The police arrested an autorickshaw driver for sexually assaulting a Class IX student at his house in Tondiarpet on Monday after luring him with the offer of food.
The police said the arrested man identified as Sekar, 44, a resident of Aziz Nagar near Tondiarpet, took the boy to his house promising to get him some snacks. A few of his neighbours on hearing a boy crying for help barged into the house and found the boy semi-naked and crying.
The neighbours cornered Sekar as he tried to escape and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. The R K Nagar police took the boy to the Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital for treatment. A police officers said the
teenager had injuries on his private parts and was kept in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Inquiries revealed that Sekar had recently quarrelled with his wife, who deserted him and left for her parents’s house. The police said Sekar was drunk when he noticed the boy on the road playing with friends. He started talking to the boy and took him to a nearby shop and bought chocolates and snacks.
As the boy was leaving, Sekar invited him to his house where he abused the boy. The R K Nagar police registered a case under the Protection of Children Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, based on a complaint by the boy’s parents.
Sekar was remanded in judicial custody after being produced before a magistrate in the city.
