A total of 10 mbps internet bandwidth will be made available in the nearest Point Of Presence (POP) to Central/ State Universities or POP of NKN available in NIC located in the collectorate of various districts across Tamil Nadu.

Sources from Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited (TACTV), the nodal agency to carry out the project said the network will be linear by the shortest route from NKN to the school where the internet provision will be made available by NIC. 

“To start with, site survey will be done by the company. During the survey, the company will take the shortest route to reduce the capex (the cost of long-term improvements) on optical fibre cable and accessories. Site survey report will be validated by the technical team of TACTV,” a senior official from TACTV told DTNEXT.

According to him, the connectivity from NKN to the school will be tested for end to end connectivity. “Initially 50 selected schools will be provided with OFC network,” he added.

When the network is tested for end-to-end connectivity and becomes fully functional, Go Live (network in alive) certificate will be issued to by the TACTV technical team. The aerial cable sill will be laid as per the guidelines issued by Bharat Broadband Limited (BBNL). 

Once testing is done, the students will be able to do cooperative research, development and innovation amongst NKN connected institutes. The network will also provide advanced distance education in specialized fields like engineering, science and medicine.
