The tourism of Barbados has come out head and shoulders above the world, occupying the number one position in the 2017 Destination Satisfaction Index or DSI.
More than 70,000 travelers, all through the year were questioned worldwide, providing their feedback on 20 different categories like the Beaches, Accommodation, Cuisine and Shopping. At the end, Barbados succeeded with the highest overall World score, 8.8/10, out of 144 countries. Also, the destination ranked highest in terms of Accommodation category, and highest in the Americas region ahead of Bermuda and the Bahamas.
The Barbados delegation received the awards. Led by Donna Cadogan, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, at ITB Berlin, the famous travel trade show of the world arranged in the capital city of Germany saw Seychelles being crowned the second place and Bermuda grabbing the third spot respectively.
CEO of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) William ‘Billy’ Griffith, expressed strategies to leverage the tribute in the destination’s marketing communications in the next year.
The two European research companies, Norstat and dp2research developed the DSI, which calculates the valuation of a holiday destination on the factors travellers find most attractive on the whole. The online survey was controlled in 24 source markets, followed by 70,000 interviews resulted in 1.4 million responses directly from travelers which informed the scores in each category.
