PANAJI: Calangute police arrested a husband-wife duo for allegedly duping the caretaker of a guest-house in Candolim of Rs 1,25,000 over a period of time. The guest-house is owned by film actor Meghna Naidu.

Inspector Jivba Dalvi said the complainant, Suhasini Raut, a resident of Orda, had on February 26 lodged a complaint of cheating against the duo, identified as Princeraj Chaviraj, 32, and Sharmil Dalal, 32, natives of Worli, Mumbai, alleging that they had duped her of Rs 1,25,000 on the pretext of providing jobs to her children, while staying at the guest-house.

Following the complaint, police had registered an offence under section 420 r/w 34 IPC, but couldn't nab the accused as they were absconding.

On Tuesday morning, police received information that the duo were at Majorda, in south Goa, following which a team rushed to the spot and took them into custody. They were later placed under arrest and have been remanded to four days in police custody.
