Seeks damages from the government

Hadiya has alleged that her father is in the hands of certain “anti-national forces” who are using him for their political purposes.

Addressing the media here on Monday along with her husband Shafin Jahan, she claimed that Ashokan, her father, had been misled by those “anti-Islamic groups”.

Ms. Hadiya alleged that she had to go through hardships because of their involvement in her affairs.

“My parents are dear to me, I never wished to be away from them,” she said, reiterating that she did not embrace Islam to marry Mr. Jehan.

Ms. Hadiya said she was forced to turn against her parents when they denied her right to choose the religious belief of her choice and live with a man she liked. “I have never sought compensation from my parents as being spread in the social media. But I need to seek damages from the government for all the troubles... Efforts were on to portray me as even mentally challenged,” she said.

Ms. Hadiya also alleged that some people tried to reconvert her to Hinduism during the time of her house arrest. Even psychiatrists came to talk about Sanatana dharma. Some of their actions were unbearable.

Except Jamida of the Koran Sunnath Society, all the others represented a particular religious viewpoint. Some of the visitors even claimed that their work had been endorsed by judges.

The police personnel who stood guard outside the house were seen politely behaving with these people. “They allowed people, who I did not want to meet, to come inside the house,” she said.

Claim in the affidavit

Asked about her claim in the affidavit in the apex court that her mother had tried to poison her, Ms. Hadiya said she stuck to whatever she submitted in the court.

Claiming that she had lost precious two years in the legal battle, Ms. Hadiya said she wanted to put an end to all controversies and lead a peaceful life. “I will continue my studies in Coimbatore and settle down in Kerala thereafter,” she added.
