Pune: Haryana sub-junior girls wrestlers swept all but one gold medals nine medals on offer winning all the top podium places across the weight categories on the first day of the 20th Sub-junior girls National wrestling championship at the Boxing Hall of Balewadi Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

Sweety opened the account for Haryana in the 40-kg class wherein Nilam won the silver medal to complete a 1-2 finish for Haryana. Same was the case in 57-kg and 65-kg classes. Manasi won gold and Priyanka silver medal in 57-kg and Sona and Bhateri struck gold and silver medals in 65-kg class.

Host Maharashtra had to settle for the runners-up trophy after winning two silver and 7 bronze medals.

It was Delhi girl Simran in 43-kg who brought blemish into Haryana’s collection as she wrestled her way to gold medal beating Honey Kumari in the final. The two bronze medals on offer were snapped up by Sapna Kumari of Haryana and Maharashtra’s Nikita.

This was by far the best performance by Maharashtra girls wrestlers. In the last championship Maharashtra had finished third.

Shrusti Bhosale (61-kg) and Smita Patil (49-kg)  were the wrestlers who earned silver medals for Maharashtra.
Shrusti lost to World cadet champion Anshu 10-0 given that the Haryana wrestler had more international experience, which played major role in her win.

Smita, who hails from Shingnapur, too lost to Jivika 10-0 on technical points. Though Smita had experience of participating in Khelo India and School Nationals, but that was not enough to put Jivika down.
