Dhenkanal Biju Mahila Janata Dal president, who was also Sarpanch of Kaimati Panchayat in the district, died in a road accident during late night on Sunday, when a speeding dumper hit an auto rickshaw she was on board near Dumping Nala area of Fertilizer township here.
Her father and auto rickshaw driver were also injured in the incident and were rushed to the Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela. Their condition was reported to be stable.
According to sources, the deceased Mitanjali Swain, who also works as an advocate in the Orissa High Court, had come to her parental house on Sunday from Dhenkanal by Intercity Express along with her younger sister. Her father had gone to the station to receive them. She was on her way from Rourkela station to her parental house at Fertilizer township area, when the mishap occurred. At about 11 am, when their auto rickshaw was approaching the Dumping Nala area, a speeding dumper, coming from the front side, collided with their vehicle and vanished from the spot. Mintanjali reportedly received critical head injury and died on the spot. However, Mitanjali's younger sister was left unhurt.
