Upcoming new bikes in India: Yamaha YZF-R15 v3.0 with Opt.Racing Kit

One of the eagerly awaited new bikes in India, the Yamaha YZF-R15 3.0 will start deliveries soon. Regarded as one of the best fully-faired sports bikes in India, the new bike has a lot of upgrades that should make it appealing to future buyers.

Finally, we are getting the R15 V3.0! Many of us have been waiting for this day for years and we were pretty pissed off when the Indonesians already got the bike much before us. Well, we still have lots to complain still as while they got the fully loaded international variant, the Indian Yamaha R15 Version 3.0 has been skimmed slightly, to keep costs in check.

We are missing out on the USD front forks and the premium IRC rubber. There is still no mention of ABS, even as an option, which is quite puzzling, as that was on the wish list of many potential buyers, and quite a sensible request.

To sweeten the deal, Yamaha might offer a Race Option Kit, that upgrades the rubber to Metzelers which are stickier. You also get frame sliders as part of the deal and a louder performance boosting Daytona exhaust. Pricing for the optional race kit has been announced and are as follows.

Accessories pricing:
Seat cover – Rs 450
Tank pad – Rs 250
Skid plate – Rs 500

Metzeler rear tyre – Rs 9,998
Daytona exhaust muffler – Rs 16,700

Talking about pricing, the new 2018 Yamaha R15 v3.0 comes at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.25 lakhs, which is an increment of Rs 6,117 over the older generation bike. So the pricing is sensible for the amount of upgrades that you are getting over the 2nd generation bike.

Yamaha R15 v2.0 vs v3.o, what makes them different?

Styling is the obvious change between Yamaha R15 v2.0 and v3.o, with the Version 3.0 sporting LED headlamps and tail lamps. Styling is more Yamaha R6 now with the fake air dam up front. Graphics are a bit matured now with ‘no look at me’ stickering. There are two new shades as well, thunder grey and racing blue. Alloy design is also different as well as the new all-digital dashboard.

Now coming to the not so obvious but important bits, the engine gets VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) which should improve low and top end performance. There is also a slipper clutch now. Tyre sizes are now up to 90/80-R17 at front and 130/70-R17 at the back to 100/80-R17 tyre at front and 140/70-R17 at the rear. Wheelbase has also reduced from 1,345mm to 1,325mm, which should translate to sharper handling.

Fuel tank capacity is now 11 litres, which is a litre down on the old bike, and the weight has gone up by 3kg.
