SURAT: A
major fire erupted at a
scrap godown near Ichhapore on Hajira Road on Tuesday afternoon. The reason for starting of the fire is unknown. A huge black smoke engulfed the skies above the area of Ichhapore village.
“The godown had a pile of waste material of tyre scrap and as a result, huge black smokes were visible from 8-10km vicinity. The black smoke is a result of tyre scrap. However, no loss of life or injury is reported,” said Vasant Parikh, fire officer, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) fire department.
At present, the fire is still raging and two fire tenders from SMC, one from nearby KRIBHCO plant and one from Reliance have been pressed into service.
“We are finding it very difficult to douse the fire due to lack of water. There is no source of water near by so water is being brought form KRIBHCO plant,” said Parikh.
It is not known till now who owns the place.
