Range Rover Sport SVR Sets Another Record in China
Last month, Land Rover took its Range Rover Sport SVR and climbed all 999 steps of the Heaven’s Gate stairway in China.
Now Land Rover has taken its supercharged SUV and set another record in China. Its Range Rover Sport SVR set a record on Tianmen Road, completing all 99 turns of the twisty mountain pass in 9 minutes and 51 seconds. The previous fastest time, 10 minutes and 31 seconds, was set by a Ferrari 458 Italia in 2016.

If you’re looking to beat a record set by a Ferrari in a Range Rover, you need a good driver. The company called on racing driver Ho-Pin Tung for the task, the same man who set the Heaven’s Gate record. Tung is a racing driver in the FIA WEC series, where he races for Jackie Chan’s DC Racing team in an Oreca LMP2. Tung won the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year, and has now added two unique driving records to his resume as well with help from Land Rover.
You can see clips from Ho-Pin Tung’s Tianmen Road record in the video embedded above. We’re still waiting for a full onboard from Land Rover – we imagine it was a pretty wild ride.
