No charges proved against NBCC CMD
New Delhi: NBCC on Monday said that no charges have been established against its CMD Anoop Kumar Mittal as allegations against him were not corroborated during the CBI investigation. During the vigilance review, the CVO, NBCC informed the Board of Directors that CBI has filed charge sheet in the case and no charges have been established against Mittal as during the investigation the allegations against him were not found corroborated, NBCC said in a press statement. In late December, the CBI had booked Mittal for alleged corruption in the Rs 2,150-crore re-development project of ITPO Complex at Pragati Maidan.
‘opposition unity bid to continue’
New Delhi: The show of opposition unity would not stop at Congress leader Sonia Gandhi's dinner on Tuesday, but would continue at NCP chief Sharad Pawar's residence at the end of this month. According to top NCP sources, Sharad Pawar has called a meet of all opposition leaders, including the Congress, to discuss a strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. NCP leader Praful Patel has already met Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata and invited her to attend the meet.
Rajiv assassination: cbi against convict’s plea
New Delhi: The CBI has sought dismissal of a plea filed in the Supreme Court by one of the convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case seeking recall of the May 1999 verdict upholding his conviction, saying it was not "maintainable" and his role in the conspiracy was "clearly established". The agency's affidavit came into the public domain on Monday, a day after Congress President Rahul Gandhi said in Singapore that he and his sister Priyanka have "completely forgiven" his father Rajiv Gandhi's killers as they found it "difficult to hate people".
SC blueprint for Manipur probe
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday provided a four-point blueprint to the CBI's SIT and directed it to expedite the probe into alleged extra-judicial killings and fake encounters by the Army, Assam Rifles and police in Manipur which had come under the scanner of the NHRC, Gauhati High Court and some commissions of inquiry. The apex court said the special investigation team (SIT) should first complete the ongoing probe in 13 cases of the NHRC, followed by the matters related to judicial inquiry and those on which the high court had given its findings.
Rafale contract approved in 2016
New Delhi: As the Congress alleged wrongdoing in the Rs 58,000 crore Rafale fighter jet deal with France and sought to know if the Cabinet Committee on Security(CCS) had given the approval for the 36-jets contract, the government said on Monday the approval was given in August 2016. The announcement for procurement for the jets was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to France in April 2015. Giving this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre also said the cost of each Rafale aircraft is approximately Rs 670 crore but did not give details of prices of associated equipment, weapons and services.
Anaemia detection camp held first time
New Delhi: For the first time, Union Health Ministry organised anemia detection camp for its employees at its headquarter at Nirman Bhawan in the national Capital on Monday. The doctors examined the blood of around 750 staff including Health Secretary Preeti Sudan at the camp which was organised with an aim to make aware the staff particularly women about their health status. Anemic employees were advised diet and treatment, said a senior health official from the Ministry.
