Was released on bail after victim retracts complaint

The Nandini Layout police have arrested the wife of a BBMP councillor for allegedly assaulting the daughter of her domestic help after ₹5,000 was missing from her house. The girl had to seek medical help.

The police arrested Sudha, who is the wife of Marappana ward councillor Mahadev. Later, she was released on bail after the victim and her family retracted their complaint.

According to the police, the victim would often visit her mother in the house. On Sunday, when Sudha returned home, she found that ₹5,000 was missing from her cupboard. She allegedly summoned the girl and trashed her after she confessed to taking the cash. The girl returned the money, but was badly hurt and had to be taken to a hospital, said the police.

“We have registered a case of assault and arrested Sudha. Later, the victim and her family retracted her statement. However, we are still investigating the case,” a senior police officer said.
