When the first bench led by Chief Justice Indira Banerjee commenced its sitting on Monday, G Mohanakrishnan, president, Madras High Court Advocate Association (MHAA), made a mention about the reported high-handed behavior of the SI Sundaram, when advocate Periyaswamy had gone to station and sought to register a complaint in a land dispute on behalf of his client. 

Mohanakrishnan, on pointing out that the advocate had been illegally detained in the station for over five hours as well as attacked, showed a photo revealing the brutal way Periyaswamy was attacked. The SI on assaulting Periyaswamy had also allegedly insisted that the latter take a selfie with him and display the photo in his house to serve as a reminder about Sundaram and what the police can do. 

Following this, the Chief Justice who sought details from the Government pleader about the incident, made it clear that such kind of action cannot be tolerated and that it was inclined to take suo motu cognisance of the incident.
