In yet another example of the growing lawlessness in the holy town, unidentified miscreants attacked and critically injured Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty’s Personal Assistant (PA) Bhabani Prasad Sahu near Khakimatha Nuasahi in the town late on Sunday night.
Sahu sustained grievous injuries in his head, face and legs after the miscreants attacked him with sharp weapons. He was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to a Bhubaneswar-based hospital after his condition deteriorated.
The incident occurred at around 11: 30 pm when Bhabani was returning home by a scooty along with his friend Somanath Sahu.
The miscreants way laid Bhabani and Somnath and attacked them with swords and other sharp weapons on a lonely stretch of the road.
Though the motive behind the incident was yet to be ascertained, police have launched a probe to ascertain whether the attack was fallout of some political or business rivalry.
Minister Mohanty said he hopes that police would nab the culprits soon.
