Busiest February on record at Edinburgh Airport

More than 846,000 people passed through Edinburgh Airport in February, making it the busiest ever February at Scotland’s busiest airport. Numbers were up 4.3% on the same month last year despite the severe winter weather brought by the Beast from the East which forced the cancellation of services. Growth came from international passengers, up 13.4% on last year.

Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, Gordon Dewar said: “It’s encouraging to see passenger numbers continuing to grow as we add more and more destinations and routes, and delivering another record month continues our strong start to the year. International numbers surged again thanks to a number of new routes and the huge influx of French fans for the Six Nations – the result obviously not to their liking but no doubt an enjoyable trip to this magnificent capital city! It was a challenging month domestically with the closure of London City Airport and the Beast from the East forcing a number of cancellations, most of which were domestic, while the Ryanair Stansted service comes back online this month. We expect to see those numbers increase again which will further boost our passenger numbers.”
