‘Why is it not implementing promises?’

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday adopted a resolution denouncing the attitude of the Centre towards implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act and its promises.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu moved the resolution which was supported by the party legislators through a voice vote.

Three of the BJP legislators, including floor leader P. Vishnu Kumar Raju and former Minister Pydikondala Manikyala Rao, remained neutral.

‘Inordinate delay’

The resolution said the Assembly was strenuously objecting to the inordinate delay in the implementation of the Act and promises made by the then Prime Minister in Parliament.

Hoping that the Centre would implement the legal and fair demands of the State, the Assembly said it took a serious note of the State’s demands being ridiculed by some leaders holding responsible positions in the Central government.

The Assembly also questioned the Centre on why it was denying the special category status (SCS) when the Finance Commission did not recommend so while all incentives were being continued to the States enjoying SCS at present.

Earlier, Mr. Naidu countered the claims of Mr. Raju who said it was the BJP that was actually committed to the development of Andhra Pradesh and that M. Venkaiah Naidu had initially demanded the SCS and listed out the institutions required for the State soon after bifurcation.
