Pre Orders on 600 HP Polestar 1 Open at $2,500
Customers in 18 different countries can now place a pre-order for the 600 hp Polestar hybrid coupe ahead of its arrival next year.
The Polestar 1 is the first car to be sold under Volvo’s newly rebranded Polestar electric vehicles sub-brand. The hybrid two-door features two electric motors and Volvo’s Drive-E 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged engine, which altogether make 600 hp and 730 lb-ft of torque. It can also travel 93 miles on electric power alone – the most of any hybrid vehicle, the automaker says.

Pre-ordering a Polestar 1 will require customers to put down a $2,500 fully refundable deposit, which Polestar says serves as a placeholder in the line for the car. The cars won’t be purchased in a traditional sense, with Volvo instead offering it through a subscription service where a monthly fee covers things like insurance, maintenance and vehicle pickup and delivery. Currently, pre-orders are open in China, the United States, Sweden, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Portugal, Poland, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Canada.
The Polestar 1 will be built at the automaker’s new facility in Chengdu, China.
