A Short Film About LASVIT Premieres at the Architecture & Design Film Festival

LOS ANGELES, March 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- LASVIT, Czech manufacturer of beautiful art glass installations, is bringing their short film Breakpoint to America for the Architecture & Design Film Festival. The Czech/English mockumentary, directed by Kryštof Jankovec, depicts the career of LASVIT founder and president, Leon Jakimič.

Since childhood, Jakimič wanted to be the world's number one tennis player. Then something shifted and things turned out differently – lucky for the world of glass, design and craftsmanship. The short film follows the story of LASVIT and the tradition of Bohemian glass  which was reborn in the 21st century to inspire the world beyond Bohemia.

"Glassmaking is a game where the ball is in the court of craft and art. Unlike a tennis match, it's not a matter of winners and losers. It's a shared journey, a joint quest to capture beauty through light and glass," said Jakimič.

Art glass, is often displayed as a luxury product in near austere circumstances. Leon's world blends these two aspects - down-to-earth glassmaking on one side and high-flying lifestyle on the other.

"While Leon's tennis career may not have worked out, it exposed him to a world beyond the Czech Republic and then returned him to his roots," says Stephan Hamel, portrayed in the film as Leon's design guru, "This enabled the fantastic success of his business. Leon is a true visionary and I'm sure what he began is a wave that will go far beyond LASVIT."

Breakpoint will debut on Friday, March 16th at 6pm in the LA Theatre Center, 514 South Spring Street. Directly following the screening, LASVIT will be hosting a post-film Q+A discussion on Czech design featuring LASVIT's Global Marketing Director Marcel Náhlovský and American Journalist and Architecture Critic Edward Lifson as moderator.
