A 23-year-old commerce graduate has been arrested for allegedly making and selling forged mark sheets and certificates, the police said on Monday. Kapil Goyal was arrested from Kashmere Gate metro station on March 7, the police added.
“He was arrested after the police received a tip-off that Goyal would come to Kashmere Gate in his car with the forged documents. He was arrested on the spot,” said a police officer.
The police said various coaching centres and agents arranged customers for Goyal and communicated via WhatsApp to avoid detection.
“The coaching centres used to send him details of clients. Goyal would then prepare forged certificates of desired institutes and send them via courier. He charged agents ₹5,000-₹7,000 for one set of forged certificates,” the officer said.
Goyal’s office in Janakpuri was raided following his arrest, and over 300 forged certificates and mark sheets made in the name of educational institutions across the country were seized, said the police. Laptops, a colour scanner, a printer, a cutter machine, templates of certificates and mark sheets and hologram stickers used to prepare the forged documents were also seized.
Goyal told the police during interrogation that he had been running the racket for the past two years and had supplied over 1,000 fake certificates. Goyal, who belongs to Bhiwani in Haryana, completed his BCom from Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak.
His brother Happy, who was arrested in 2016, was also involved in the same trade. “On seeing Happy earning well, Goyal joined him. When Happy was arrested by Haryana police, Goyal fled to Delhi and opened an office to continue the illegal business,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Deo.
