ALLAHABAD: As the results of Phulpur bypolls would be declared by Wednesday (March 14) noon, the outcome of the victory would be milestone for several bigwigs of various political parties.
The seat of Phulpur is important for the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) as it was vacated by deputy CM, Keshav Prasad Maurya; the seat has become prestigious for both him and the BJP. The fact that this seat is important for BJP could be ascertained by the fact that the state CM, Adityanath Yogi was himself engaged in aggressive campaigning in the five assembly seats which together form this Lok Sabha seat. For mustering support for BJP candidate, Kaushalindra Singh Patel, the CM addressed five public meetings in a span of three days.

Besides the CM, several of the minister in his cabinet including the deputy CM, minister of health Siddharth Nath Singh, minister for tourism Rita Bahuguna Joshi etc had camped in the city for several days and tried to woo the voters in support of BJP.

Moreover, the result is equally important for Samajwadi Party as well because the outcome could decide the fate of the BSP-SP alliance in general elections 2019. The political equation for the SP win could be affected by Atiq Ahamad, who is in the fray as an independent candidate. Result of this election is also important for this former MP from this very constituency who is presently imprisoned in Deoria jail.

Counting for the bypolls would be conducted at city's Mundra mandi from 8.00 am on Wednesday. Authorities have made elaborate arrangements for the counting of votes through EVMs. Separate sitting provision has been made for the polling agent and the persons from media. Besides, authorities have also installed display board and public address system so that those outside the venue could get the detail of counting of votes in an hourly basis.

Authorities have installed five tents for the five assembly seats wherein 14 tables each have been placed. There are a total of 2155 booths with the minimum number of booths at Phaphamau (409) and the maximum at Phulpur assembly seat (445).

District administration has also made sufficient security arrangements for Wednesday's counting. For the same, all the senior officials of the district administration inspected the arrangements.
