PUNE: Two men on a bike snatched a bag containing Rs 15,000 from a couple at
Handewadi Road in Wanowrie around 2.40pm on Monday.
The couple were riding on a scooter. They chased the suspects for about 2km, following which they raised an alarm but to no avail as the panicked suspects accelerated the speed of their vehicle and fled towards Handewadi.
“Anil Patil and his wife,
Manisha, visited a private hospital at Sasanenagar for some work on Monday. They took a halt at
Shri Ram Chowk for having an ice cream. The couple were on their way to home when two unidentified men on a bike came from behind. The pillion rider snatched Manisha’s bag before the suspects sped away,” sub-inspector
Ajay Mhetre of the Wanowrie police said on Tuesday.
“The couple gave a hot chase to the suspects and raised an alarm, but passers-by did not pay any attention to their cry for help. They followed the duo up to Dwarka sweets and gave up as the suspects picked up speed and fled in the direction of Handewadi,” the officer added.
Manisha is a homemaker while her husband runs a cycle shop. Manisha has lodged a first information report (FIR) under sections 392 (
robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code against the suspects with the Wanowrie police.
The complainant told the police that the “slim-looking robbers” were wearing black shirts and had their faces covered. The couple could not take down the vehicle’s registration number. “They also do not remember the colour of the motorcycle that the suspects were riding,” police said.
Senior inspector Sayaji Gaware of the Wanowrie police said, “CCTV cameras have captured the images of the suspects. We are working on some clues to establish the identity of the suspects and hope to detect the case at the earliest.”
