Rain disrupted the inspection by Commissioner of Railway Safety (Southern Circle), K.A. Manoharan, on the newly-laid broadgauge line between Tamirapadi and Kalpattichatram in Dindigul-Tiruchi section on Tuesday.

The Commissioner, along with senior officials from Madurai Division of Southern Railway led by its Divisional Railway Manager, Neenu Ittyerah, and officials from Railway Construction and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, began the inspection by trolley on the 23-km section of new line laid under the Villupuram-Madurai doubling project.

The CRS began his inspection at the Tamirapadi railway station. He inspected the signals and overhead electrification. He also made an inspection of the newly-laid tracks and bridges by trolley. Three major bridges have come up in this section.

“This will be the last stretch of second railway line to be completed between Villuppuram and Madurai. Once this section is thrown open, there will be a seamless double line from Chennai to Madurai,” a railway official said.

However, with sharp showers reported in the region in the afternoon, the inspection could not be carried out as per schedule. The high speed train proposed in the evening could not be completed.

A railway statement said that the speed trial would be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday onwards between Kalpattichatram and Tamirapadi.

All users of railway lines in the section are cautioned not to approach/trespass the railway lines during the trial.

Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), Sudhakar Rao, Chief Engineer (Construction), D.K. Reddy, and RVNL Executive Director (Project), Pratheep Gaur ,were among those who were present.
