EC official reviews poll preparations

Malay Mallick, Secretary of the Election Commission, reviewed preparations in the district for the Assembly election at a meeting held here on Tuesday.

Mr. Mallick said measures have been taken to provide basic amenities, including drinking water, electricity and toilets, in each polling station. The grievances and suggestions from representatives of political parties and from the public on electoral rolls, functioning of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and on Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trial (VVPAT) gadgets are being heard, he said.

Addressing the meeting, M. Lokesh, Deputy Commissioner, said demonstrations on the functioning of EVMs and VVPAT gadgets will be held in the presence of representatives of political parties prior to the polling.

Rakesh Kumar K., CEO of zilla panchayat, said that programmes to create awareness on the importance of voting are being held on campuses of educational institutions under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation campaign.
