David Brabham has voiced his intention to re-enter motorsport
The recently launched Brabham Automotive is believed to be developing a high-performance supercar as part of a newly announced project called BT62.
The company has confirmed that its new car will be shown in May following a "rigorous and extensive engineering programme", which is now said to be reaching its completion.
Although no details about the model have been released, the BT62 is expected to come in the form of a high-powered performance model because its name links it to a discontinued lineage of racing cars produced by the original Brabham brand.
It suggests that the model, the exhaust note of which can be heard in the clip below, will be extremely hardcore and potentially track-focused. This would tie in with the Brabham name's history, because it has been synonymous with Formula 1 since three-time champion Sir Jack Brabham first took to the grid in 1955.
Brabham Automotive was launched by Sir Brabham's son, David Brabham, who is a former Formula 1 driver and Le Mans winner himself, last month - two years after the company name was first registered with the UK's Companies House.
Brabham told Autocar last year that he wanted “to see the name back on track”, suggesting the launch of the car company could lead to a motorsport programme in the future.
As revealed by Autocar last year, a Brabham racing re-entry that followed the launch of a car brand would mirror a strategy employed by McLaren Automotive.

A Brabham spokesman refrained from commenting on the idea of a return to racing, stating that the car company has been “continually approached on various projects” and that it “will reveal more about the [automotive] project and its intentions shortly”.
Previous speculation linked the new Brabham Automotive brand with the Force India F1 Team, which, it was believed, could be taken over amid an ongoing legal case for its owner, Indian business tycoon Vijay Mallya. But the Force India team revealed its 2018 F1 challenger earlier this month, quelling any links to a takeover.
