NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha MP
Naresh Agrawal on Monday created a furore in the
BJP minutes after joining it with comments belittling actor-politician Jaya Bachchan as someone "who used to dance in films", remarks dubbed "unacceptable" by party leader
Sushma Swaraj.
External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj took to social media to shoot down Agrawal's remarks, calling them "improper and unacceptable."
Agrawal, a close aide of SP chief
Akhilesh Yadav, today
joined the BJP
+ in the presence of Union minister Piyush Goyal.
It was there that he expressed his disappointment at being bypassed by the SP for nomination to the Rajya Sabha.
"I have been compared with those who dance and work in films," Agrawal said, a comment that the BJP was quick to reject.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra immediately clarified that his party respects people from all fields and welcomes them in politics.
Agrawal lost his bid for re-nomination to the Upper House to actor Jaya Bachchan.
His term as a Rajya Sabha member ends April 2, while Bachchan has once again been nominated to the House by the SP, reported PTI.
