A case under IPC sections 323/504 and appropriate sections of SC/ST Act has been registered against BJP MLA from Rudrapur Rajkumar Thukral and two other BJP leaders at Rudrapur police station on Sunday after an FIR was lodged against the MLA and others alleging that the lawmaker had assaulted a woman belonging to the Scheduled Caste.
Police acted after Ramkishore, resident of Indira Colony, Rudrapur, registered a complaint, stating that his wife, two daughters and a son had been assaulted, threatened and subjected to caste slur by the MLA Thukral and some others.
Sources, however, said that the police had been forced to register complaint after a video purportedly showing the MLA assaulting a woman had gone viral on social media networking sites. Police insiders said that following direction of the State administrative officers alarmed over the wide circulation of the video, the district police have registered an FIR against MLA Thukral and two other BJP leaders.
The Incident is reported to have occurred on Friday when a panchayat on an elopement case was being held at the camp office of the MLA. Sources said that the panchayat was necessitated by youth of Indira Colony having eloped with a minor girl of Shivnagar. The minor girl’s parents had already registered a complaint at Transit Camp police station over the elopement issue. During the panchayat, as tempers frayed with both the families arguing excitedly the MLA allegedly lost his temper and along with two other BJP leaders assaulted a woman and others.
