Akhil Sheoran wins gold in shooting WC
new delhi: Young Akhil Sheoran clinched the gold medal in men's 50m rifle 3 position with plenty to spare as India continued their superlative run at the ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico. Sheoran, thus, became the fourth young Indian shooter to win a medal on ISSF World Cup debut. Sheoran shot 455.6 in the final to pip Austria's Bernhard Pickl in second place with 452. Sheoran's gold was India's fourth of the competition and makes it almost certain that the country would finish on top of the medals tally for the first time in an ISSF World Cup.
Indian women win series 3-1
seoul: Indian women's hockey team played out a 1-1 draw against hosts South Korea in the last game to win the five-match series 3-1 here on Sunday. Both the teams scored a goal each in the final quarter of the match to share the honours. It was Vandana Katariya who gave India the lead in the 48th minute but the visitors' joy was cut short when South Korea's Bomi Kim (50') scored the equaliser two minutes later. Both the teams looked to finish off the series on a good note and created more chances. It was India who benefited first when Vandana shot in a a well-waited forward pass from skipper Rani Rampal in the 48th minute. However, the lead was short-lived as South Korea scored a field goal in the 50th minute through Bomi Kim to draw parity.
India get ready for Australia test
vadodara: High on confidence after the triumph in South Africa, Indian women's cricket team will be aiming to put up another stellar show against Australia in the three-match ODI series beginning from Monday. The series is a part of the ICC Women's Championship in which India had defeated South Africa in their opening match. When the two teams last met, it was a 30-minute mayhem by Harmanpreet Kaur that turned the fortune of the women's cricket in India by 360 degrees. AITA ignores Bopanna's reservation
delhi: Sending out a strong message that it won't allow players to interfere in selection matters, the AITA on Sunday brought back old warhorse Leander Paes in the Davis Cup team despite "reservations" from seasoned campaigner Rohan Bopanna. The five-member selection committee named Yuki Bhambri, Ramkumar Ramanathan, Sumit Nagal, Bopanna and Paes apart from including left-handed Divij Sharan as a reserve member in the side. Purav Raja, who performed below-par against Canada in the World Group Play-Off tie, was predictably dropped from the squad. The selectors have included both Bopanna and Paes in the team, leaving the ball in Bopanna's court to decide whether he wants to play or opt out of the April 6-7 tie, to be held in Tainjin.
Shubhankar finish tied 7th at Indian Open
gurgaon: It was heartbreak for Shubhankar Sharma on the final day as he struggled to a three-over 75 to finish tied seventh even as Englishman Matt Wallace bagged his second European Tour title at the $ 1,750,000 Hero Indian Open here on Sunday. Wallace, who stayed in contention throughout the week, overcame compatriot Andrew Johnston in the play-off, 18th hole, to clinch his first Indian Open title . While everything went wrong for Shubhankar on Sunday as he struggled with his putting to drop three double bogeys. India thus failed to retain the trophy for the first time in four years after SSP Chawrasia won it twice in 2015 and 2016 and Anirban Lahiri bagged it in 2015.
