Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that self-reliance in defence, to the extent possible, has got to be given priority.
Inaugurating Ammo India 2018, a two day International Conference on military ammunition in New Delhi on Monday, Ms. Sitharaman said, her ministry is encouraging public-private partnership in promoting Make in India in defence sector.
She added Ordnance Factory Board and Defence Public Sector Undertakings need to be reviewed, revived and made more dynamic.
The Minister said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave direction that it is the right time to push defense production corridors and two defence industry corridors will be established in Chennai - Bengaluru and Kanpur - Jhansi region.
She said, Ministry is focusing on encouraging MSMEs working with major firms in this regard. Speaking to media on the forest fire erupted in Tamil Nadu she said, sixteen Garud commandos walked up and reached the spot at 3 am and rescued few people at night.
