When the beautiful dream turns into reality, life turns into a dream. The same happened with the woodcutter in the play ‘Swapnalok’. Vijaydan Detha’s celebrated story ‘Swapnalok’ was brilliantly staged on the grand closure of Rang Triveni Theatre Fest.
The play was staged at Shaheed Bhavan here on Sunday. Written by Vijaydan Detha, the play was wonderfully directed by Nitish Dubey and was splendidly performed by the artists of Karmyogi Theatre Group.
The play begins with narrating a story of a woodcutter. It showcases the daily routine of the woodcutter. The poor man earns his bread with selling the woods to other vendors. Sometimes he does a good sale and sometimes he is left with no money.
One night, when the woodcutter was very tired, he slept early in the night. He sees a very interesting and adventurous dream. He saw that he is married to the princess of the kingdom. When he woke up from his dream, he started laughing out loud. On the other hand, the princess is dealing with a disease and the king has announced the sad news.In laughing aloud, the woodcutter is arrested. Still, he does not stops laughing. Hearing his voice, the princess urges to meet the woodcutter. As she sees him, she fell in love with him and starts to recover.
Her father i.e. the king disapproves her love for the woodcutter and imprisons her in palace’s room. Seeing all these hardships, the princess again fell ill and pale. On the advice of royal fortune teller, the king approves their love and gets them married.
The live music adorned with the spectacular stage craft and light design the play was beautifully designed and presented leaving the audience enthralled.
