CJ agrees to take up suo motu PIL

more-in

The Chief Justice of Madras High Court Indira Banerjee on Monday agreed to take up a suo motu public interest litigation petition on the basis of a photograph, circulating on the social media, of a sub-inspector of police having taken a selfie with a lawyer after allegedly beating him up black and blue at the Thattarmadam police station in Thoothukudi district. Madras High Court Advocates Association president R. Mohanakrishnan had brought the issue to the notice of the Chief Justice and urged her to take up a suo motu PIL petition. He claimed that the lawyer Periyasamy was thrashed at the police station by sub-inspector Sundaram when the former insisted on registering a complaint lodged by his client.
