Today is the last day for filing the nomination for 58 Rajya Sabha seats. The polling will be held on 23rd of this month.
Candidates from various political parties filed their nominations today in various states.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley filed his nomination papers from Uttar Pradesh today.
He was accompanied by state Deputy Chief Ministers-- Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma -- and state ministers.
The remaining seven BJP candidates are also likely to file their nominations today. 10 Rajya Sabha seats are at stake from the state.
In Rajasthan, three candidates nominated by the BJP filed their nominations at the legislative assembly today.
Bhupendra Yadav, Kirodi Lal Meena and Madan lal Saini filed their nominations in the presence of Chief Minister Vashundhara Raje and other senior leaders.
There are three Rajya Sabha Seats in the state for the current election.
In Maharashtra former Chief Minister Narayan Rane, President of State Women’s Commission Vijaya Rahatkar, Kerala BJP president V Muralidharan and veteran journalist Kumar Ketkar filed nomination papers today for Rajya Sabha polls from Maharasthra.
Rane filed his nomination paper from BJP. Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar had already filed nomination.
Now there are altogether seven candidates in the fray for the six seats, which means voting will be held instead of unanimous election.
In Bihar, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and five others filed nominations for the six vacant seats of biennial Rajya Sabha elections in the state.
From JD(U), Basistha Narayan Singh and Mahendra Prasad filed their nominations.
Besides Akhilesh Prasad Singh of Congress Manoj Jha and Ashfaque Karim of RJD have also filed their nomination papers. All candidates are almost certain to win following party's and alliance strength in the legislative assembly.
In Gujarat, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Parshottam Rupala filed the nomination papers as BJP candidates.
Both the leaders are seeking second term of the upper house.
Congress yesterday nominated Naranbhai Rathva and Dr Amee Yagnik. They will file their nomination forms in the afternoon. In Madhya Pradesh, four BJP Candidates, Dharmendra Pradhan, Thavarchand Gehlot, Ajay Pratap Singh and Kailash Soni filed their nominations in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and other senior leaders of the state. Congress candidate Raj Mani Patel will file his nomination later today.
