KANPUR: Two Hindi poets, including KD Sharma 'Hahakari' and Promod Tiwari were killed when their car was hit by a truck at Marhala crossing under the limits of Achalganj police station in Unnao, early on Monday morning.

The police have booked the truck driver for negligence and rash driving.

The mishap took place when the poets were returning to their respective homes after taking part in a “Kavi Sammelan” in Raebareli district on Sunday, the police said.

The driver fled the site after abandoning the vehicle soon after the accident.

"A case has been registered against the unidentified driver of the truck, under Sections 279/337/338/427, IPC, at the Achalganj Police Station," said superintendent of police Unnao Pushpanjali.
