Rajya Sabha elections to be held on March 23, and five candidates having filed their nominations, BJP' sole candidate
Rajeev Chandrasekhar is the second richest of the aspirants who will be contesting at this year’s Rajya Sabha polls.
Chandrsekhar has declared his and his family assets worth Rs 64.58 crore and liabilities of Rs 1.22 crore, which is in his wife's name.
Of the Rs 64 crore, as much as Rs 51.62 crore is in movable assets with book and cost values of shares, debentures and bonds.
Surprisingly, the active business tycoon and his family have declared no ownership of any four wheelers and have a single vintage two-wheeler in the name of Chandrasekhar himself.
The 1942 model Red Indian Scout was purchased by the two time MP in 1994 at a cost of Rs 10,000.
In 2006, when he first contested the RS polls, Chandrasekhar had not listed the vintage bike and had claimed in affidavit that he owned a sports utility vehicle worth Rs 73 lakhs.
Meanwhile, in terms of jewellery, gold and bullion, Chandrasekhar has assets worth Rs 1.97 crore while his wife owns precious metals worth Rs 1.76 crore.
The total value of immovable assets of the Chandrasekhar family is Rs 12.96 crore, which is the value of their sole house in Koramangala, Bengaluru.
Chandrasekhar in his affidavits has cited four criminal cases registered against him and four other defamation cases filed against him and his Kannada media channel, wherein he was the director previously.
Meanwhile, all the three
Congress candidates combined assets are worth a minuscule when compared to JD(S) aspirant B M Farookh and BJP’s Chandrasekhar.
The combined assets of the three Congress candidates is worth about Rs 24 crore.
While G C Chandrashekar is worth the highest among the Congress aspirants, with Rs 14.14 crore, the other candidate L Hanumanthaiah is worth Rs 8.40 crore.
Both Chandrashekar and Hanumanthaiah have declared that they have no four wheelers or two-wheelers in either their name or their family members names.
Meanwhile, the third Congress candidate Syed Nasir Hussain has shown the least assets of the five candidates in the fray. Hussain has declared assets worth Rs 1.87 crore and liabilities of Rs 5.76 lakhs.
Hussain and his wife also own a Toyota Innova, a Honda Activa and a Maruti Brezza. Interestingly, while Hussain is a Phd from the
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), his wife Mehnaz Ansari works as the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) representative for India, South and South East Asia.
