Saroj Pandey to be BJP’s RS nominee

BJP national general secretary Saroj Pandey will be the party candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Chhattisgarh, a party statement informed on Sunday.

The 49-year old seasoned politician who belongs to Durg district in Chhattisgarh will file her nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

The BJP has enough MLAs in Chhattisgarh state assembly to get Pandey elected to the upper house but the main opposition Congress said it would not allow the BJP nominee to get elected unopposed as the party has planned to field its candidate as well.

Pandey has served as Mayor of Durg city and had been elected to state assembly as well as to Lok Sabha.

She is described as an emerging force in BJP’s politics in Chhattisgarh in recent years.
