In a ‘psychological relief’ for the land oustees under Mallannasagar and Kondapochamma reservoirs, Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao laid the foundation stone for the construction of double bedroom houses for rehabilitation at two places on Sunday.
While a housing colony will come up for the Kondapochamma reservoir oustees of four villages – Bahilampur, Mamidyala, Thanedarpally and Thanedarpally tanda – at Tuniki Bollaram on 160 acres, the Mallannasagar reservoir oustees of five villages –Vemulaghat, Pallepahad, Etigaddakishtapur, Singaram and Erravalli – will be provided housing at Mutrajpally, near Gajwel town, on about 200 acres.
Each adult oustee will be provided with 250 yards of land, in which a 563-square feet house would be constructed in 125 yards, while the remaining area will be left open. Similarly, the building will be constructed with provision to construct another floor. The colonies will have a temple, school, anganwadi and other facilities. Those who do not want a house constructed in the site allotted to them will be offered an amount ₹5.04 lakh, equal to the construction cost. Addressing the oustees at Tuniki Bollaram and Mutrajpally, Mr. Harish Rao said the sacrifices made by the oustees will not be forgotten by the people of Telangana, as the Kondapochamam reservoir will provide irrigation to 2.85 lakh acres, while Mallannasagar reservoir will provide irrigation to 7 lakh acres.
“We will provide all kinds of facilities in these colonies. I will take the responsibility of visiting this place every alternate week to see the progress and request you to do the same,” the Minister told the oustees, asking them to decide if they wanted houses or just plots. The Minister also cautioned them to utilise the rehabilitation money wisely, warning them to be wary of people offering good interest rates for the money.
Lok Sabha member K. Prabhakar Reddy, Collector P. Venkataram Reddy, GADA special officer M. Hanumantha Rao were present.
