A Hindi film ‘Tansen’ was screened here on Sunday at Bharat Bhavan marking the closure of Nirmaya Festival. Also, panel discussions and classical musical event were a part of the grand closure of the fest.
To begin the day, a panel discussion on medicine and music was first held in the morning session. Renowned writers like Geet Chaturvedi, Udyan Vajpayi and Ashtrabhuja Shukla presented their viewpoints before the audience.
Later, movie Tansen was screened. Released in the year 1943, Tansen was the second movie to gain the highest gross during that year. Starring KL Saigal and Khurshid the movie captured the hearts once again on the big screen at Bharat Bhavan.
The story revolves around a renowned and talent singer Tansen. Orphaned at a very young age, Tansen lives in a small village with his paternal uncle. He and Tani, his childhood sweetheart, are madly in love with each other and virtually inseparable. One day an elephant goes crazy and Tansen soothes it with his singing.
Then on another occasion, while romancing Tani, his singing miraculously fills trees and shrubs with leaves and flowers, this incident is brought to Badshah Mohamed Jallaudin Akbar's attention, and Tansen is invited to his palace. There, Tansen sings and the musical instruments start accompanying him on their own. Akbar, impressed with this, appoints Tansen as his Sangeet Samrat. On Akbar's birthday, Tani comes to meet Tansen and he refuses to attend Akbar's birthday celebration. Akbar himself comes to Tansen's house, and meets with Tani.
He tells Tani that Tansen is already married, and that she should leave immediately. A devastated Tani disappears from Tansen's life.
At the end, the dying Tansen wishes to meet his friend Raja Ramchandra. Along the way to his village Tansen meets Tani near a fountain and she heals him by singing the Megh Malhar raag.The audiences enjoyed the screening whole-heartedly and with lot of ecstasy.
