Cardinals to release RB Peterson

Adrian Peterson is expected to be released by the Arizona Cardinals.

Peterson joined the Cardinals via trade from the New Orleans Saints last season and led the team in rushing despite an erratic six-game stretch with the team.

Peterson had two games with at least 134 rushing yards and three games in which he failed to reach 30 yards with the Cardinals.

Peterson is 12th on the NFL's all-time rushing list with 12,276 yards since entering the league in 2007.

Releasing Peterson saves the Cardinals about $3 million under the salary cap. Peterson was due a $750,000 roster bonus on Friday.

Johnson dislocated his left wrist in Week 1 and finished last season with 17 total touches.
