Cop honoured for saving worker’s life at Chennai Central railway station

CHENNAI: A head constable at the Chennai Central railway station was honoured for saving the life of a cleaning staff while on duty.

M Shankar, head constable, saved the life of a contract worker at Chennai Central railway station on March 7.


M Andiyappan, a contract cleaning staff, was cleaning the platform 8 when he got an electric shock. Upon seeing the worker, Shankar, using his lathi, plugged out the electric wire from switch board and saved the life of the contract worker.


R K Kulshrestha, general manger, Southern Railway sanctioned a cash award of Rs 2,000 to M Shankar as a reward for saving a life.
