Plane crash in Nepal

The passenger plane carrying 71 people from Bangladesh crashed and burst into flames as it landed Monday in Kathmandu, Nepal's capital, killing dozens of people, officials said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's new Left-Right “grand coalition” says in its joint policy paper that it welcomes and generally supports reform proposals made by Macron and the European Commission, but stays vague on some of the details. The coalition blueprint starts with the topic of Europe and includes pledges to strengthen common EU foreign and defence policy as well as to reform the eurozone.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron inaugurated Uttar Pradesh’s biggest solar power plant in Mirzapur district’s Chhanvey block. The Prime Minister and the French President pressed a button to energise the solar panels and dedicated the 75 MW facility to the people. Built at a cost of around ₹500 crore by French firm ENGIE, the 75 MW solar plant has come up at Dadar Kalan village on the hilly terrain of the Vindhyas range. Some 1,18,600 solar panels have been set up in over 380 acres.

Protests in Parliament

Protests from all parties except the ruling BJP and their ally, the Akali Dal, washed out proceedings in both houses of Parliament for the last week. On Friday, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day soon after it met in the morning. In the Rajya Sabha, too, proceedings were disrupted with opposition members storming the Well following which Chairman M, Venkaiah Naidu announced the adjournment.

he media on Monday was given a sneak peek at Delhi Metro's newest Pink Line, a part of which will be thrown open to the public on March 14. The 59-km Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor (Line 7) of the Metro network, also known as the Pink Line, is part of Phase-III project. Starting last year, trial runs on its other stretches have also been conducted. The entire corridor will open by June. On March 14, the over 20-km Majlis Park-Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus section will be inaugurated.

Azad Maidan in south Mumbai turned into a sea of red this morning as thousands of farmers, carrying red flags, converged here after walking around 180 kms under blazing sun over the last six days. The farmers plan to surround the Assembly complex to press for their demands of an unconditional loan waiver, and transfer of forest land to tribal farmers who have been tilling it for years.

Tusker stuck in Hassan rescued

A young tusker stuck in a pond near Madihalli in Alur taluk on Sunday night was rescued with the help of Forest Department officials. The animal was stuck in the mud whole night and ran into the Doddabetta Forest after Forest Department officials made a path for animal to climb up with the help of local people on Monday morning. The villagers noticed the tusker in the morning and informed the Forest Department. The animal was seen making efforts to climb up the pond.
