Themis, trained by M K Jadhav and ridden by A Sandesh, won the grade 2, C N Wadia Gold Cup, the feature event of Sunday's seven-race card. Freely available at 11-to-4 in the bookmakers' ring despite the popular vote, Themis raced as a relaxed seventh in a field of ten runners as Square Moon (SA Amit up) set a moderate pace for his nine rivals. Trevor Patel astride B Fifty Two who stalked the leader all the way assumed command briefly in the straight, but had no answer to the onslaught of Themis who started devouring ground, exploiting the ten-kg pull she enjoyed at the scales vis-a-vis B Fifty Two. Themis finally pulled away for a comfortable victory of 3-3/4 lengths, clocking a decent 2 minutes 28.21 seconds for the mile-and-a-half trip.

midday sweeps card
Horses nominated by mid-day swept the entire Sunday card. Beginning with Augustus Caesar (18-10) in the first race, six of the seven races were won by mid-day's outright first choices, the only first choice to lose, ironically, was the piping-hot favourite Bottega Louie who lost to third choice Massimo who scored at the lucrative odds of 13-2. The other winners were Congressional (13-10), Between The Waters (16-10), Khartoum (75/100), Themis (11/4) & Chaplin (11/4).
