What makes Cyril Ramaphosa think God is healing South Africa?
He must be seeing something I don't. Apart from regime change and a couple of promising signs of prosecutions the same old maladies persist and there is no sign of divine intervention.
What has suddenly happened out of the heavenly blue to show Cyril that God is now getting involved? Massive employment of the pavement desperados? No! Look at the desperation on their faces! A meaningful increase in industrial production and exports to gain foreign currency? No, also not!
The diminutive sign of a recent increase in economic performance comes from a lamentably low base and is only indicative of increased hopes, not confidence. We are still keenly waiting for reasons for confidence, but what is Cyril doing? He is not addressing major issues as far as we can see, but is walking around trying to heal the ANC, to lure lost members, to inspire positive thinking in ANC members before they also turn to the EFF or DA.
In short, he concentrates on party issues. The country can wait. This is the man we thought was going to be our Samson.
