Within a span of 24 hours, three men were killed in two separate road accidents in different parts of the national Capital. In the first incident, two men were killed when their bike was hit by a speeding car in Dwarka district in the wee hours of Sunday while in the second incident, a man was killed when a speeding car hit him in Southwest Delhi’s Jaffarpur Kalan area in the wee hours of Sunday.
The accident in Dwarka was witnessed by a friend, Ashok, of deceased, who informed the police. As per the eyewitness account, the driver of the speeding Scorpio was allegedly drunk. The impact of the collision was such that both the men flung 20 meters into the air.
According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Ashok (24) and Dharmendra (25). Both use to work in the scanning section of the online shopping web portal Flipkart in Udyog Nagar.
A senior police officer said that the accident took place at around 3 am when Ashok and Dharmendraleft office on Ashok's motorcycle.
"As per the statement of Anil, the accident took place when the two men reached near the Baprola village red light and a speeding Scorpio hit the motorcycle," said the officer.
Police said that Anil informed them about the accident. "Anil was 50 meters away from the accident spot but claimed to have noticed that the car which hit his friends was a Scorpio and also told us that the driver seemed to be drunk and accidently left behind the number plate of his car,"
Police said that both Ashok and Dharmendra were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared brought dead.
While Ashok lived with his family in the Sagarpur area, Dharmendra hailed from Garhwal in Uttarakhand and was living in Palam area with his wife and two daughters.
Police said that while they have handed over the body of Ashok to his family, the body of Dhamendra will be handed over to his family when they come to Delhi from Uttarakhand.
Police further said that as per their initial investigation, the bike belonged to Ashok and both Ashok and Dharmender used to travel together.
The senior police officer said that they have identified the car through the number plate and have also managed to identify the car owner. Arrests will be made soon," added the officer.
A case of rash and negligent driving and causing death due to negligence has been registered by the police.
In the second accident, a bus conductor was knocked down by a speeding car leaving him dead in Jafarpur Kalan area late on Saturday night. Locals alleged that the occupant of the car flashed a pistol when the crowd tried to catch them. Police are yet to make any arrests.
According to the police it was around 10 pm when the deceased, identified as Rakesh, a resident of Daraula village, who worked as a bus conductor in a cluster bus. Locals told police that it was a Fortuner SUV that hit Rakesh's motorcycle from the front when he was heading home from the bus depot.
"People said when they tried to stop the driver of Fortuner, he flashed a pistol in order to get away. However, no official complaint mentioning use of firearms has been received. CCTV footages of the accident are being checked to ascertain the sequence of accident. A case has been registered and the matter is being probed," said a senior police officer.
Police have informed Rakesh's family and have sent the body for post mortem. Family members and local area residents on Sunday staged protest at Jafarpur Kalan police station demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
