Bhopal is all set to hold 8th Theatre Olympics

The lake city of Bhopal will shine bright as the city readies to host its share of the 8th Theatre Olympics, the largest international theatre festival being held in India for the first time.

The Bhopal chapter of Theatre Olympics 2018 is organised by National School of Drama under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Government of India in collaboration with Culture Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh.

The fest will be held at Ravindra Bhavan at 7:30 pm and Bharat Bhavan at 5:30 pm.

Talking about the mega fest to the media persons on Saturday, Manoj Shrivastava Principal Secretary of Department of Culture, Madhya Pradesh said, “It is an honour for the state to become a part of the world’s largest theatre festival. Madhya Pradesh has a unique cultural lineage and this festival gives us a platform to showcase what we have.”

He further said that this mega fest will bring Bhopal on the global map of art and culture. The people of Madhya Pradesh are known for their rich culture and heritage. The state is home to folk theatre forms such as Maach, which is also being staged during the Olympics.

The biggest theatrical extravaganza in the world will provide the people of Bhopal to watch 28 stimulating world class performances, including folk productions, six specially invited plays from renowned theatre maestros and eight international productions. Bhopal will also witness a host of allied activities such as ‘Living Legend’ and ‘Master Class’ during the event.

Even, artists like Ashutosh Rana and Govind Namdev are expected to be a part of the event in Bhopal. Besides, tTheatre artists from France, Italy, Australia, Spain, Israel and India will perform in Bhopal.

The schedule for Bhopal chapter of the Theatre Olympics includes specially invited plays Tumhara Vincent (Satyabrata Rout), A Straight Proposal (Happy Ranajit Sahoo) and more.

Besides, theatre lovers in the city will get a chance to witness foreign productions such as The Lonely Room (Eloise Carles and Flavia Bertram, France), Under Construction (Fyodor Makarov, Losha Gavrielov and Vitaly Azarin, Israel) and more.
