OHRC seeks report from JSpur CDMO

| | BHUBANESWAR | in Bhubaneswar

Acting on a complaint of Ranjit Sutar of the Civil Society Forum on Human Rights (CSFHR), the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has directed the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Jagatsinghpur to make a thorough enquiry into the allegations of unavailability of ambulance and doctors for which a pregnant woman delivered a baby on the Balikuda CHC verandah on February 13, 2018.

The OHRC also asked the CDMO to submit respective reports to the commission in four weeks’ time.

The petitioner mentioned that Niranjan Swain of Mutunia village gave a call to the 102 Ambulance service to come to take her wife Krishnalata Swain to the CHC as the latter developed severe labour pain. As the ambulance did not respond, Niranjan took his wife to the CHC on his bicycle. As her condition deteriorated by coming on a bicycle, she sat down on the CHC verandah. She delivered a baby on the verandah as nobody came from the medical to attend her and shift her to the labour room despite repeated requests.

The negligence on part of the ambulance services and medical staffs and doctors posed threats to the life of the victim and violated her fundamental rights, argued Sutar. ?
