ECoR Employees’ leader passes away
Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway Employees’ Union general secretary and socialist leader Ramesh Swain died of cardiac arrest on Friday. He was 58. He had been undergoing treatment at the AMRI Hospital here for the last three days. He felt a severe pain in the chest while addressing an employees’ meeting at Angul. He is survived by wife and two sons. He was known for his simplicity among employees of South-East and East Coast Railways (ECoR). “He was a good friend of mine. I and all railway employees would feel his absence forever,” said Senior ECoR PRO Nirakar Das.
Women’s Day celebrated at JSpur
Jagatsinghpur: The International Women’s Day was celebrated at the district headquarters town here by the civil administration along with the Legal Aids Board. The speakers laid stress on cultural and political achievements of women, besides need for accelerating gender parity. Three SHGs were felicitated apart from eight Anganwadi Workers for their contributions for empowering women. District Judge and Legal Aids Board head Rabi Narayan Mishra attended as chief guest accompanied by the district Collector, the Zilla Parishad President, the Civil Judge, Registrar, Civil Court. Hundreds of women were present.
Coop Secy visits JSpur, inspects works
Jagatsinghpur: District Nodal Officer and Cooperation Department Secretary Ranjana Chopra on Thursday visited Raghunathpur block and inspected several developmental works. She first visited Gualipur made a spot verification of two houses being constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, She then visited a flower farmer’s garden at Purana under Odapada panchayat. She also visited the oldest Raghunathpur primary school and an Anganwadi Centre. District Collector Yamini Sarangi and other Government officials were present.
Athagarh Sahitya Samaj observes Holi
Athagarh: The Athagarh Sahitya Samaj observed Holi at the Suvadeepa Kalyan Mandap here on Friday under the chairmanship of its president Pranakrushna Dash. Athagarh SDPO Prakash Chandra Pal was chief guest and former president of the organisation Adwaita Charan Panda was guest of honour. Social worker Kanduri Charan Nayak (95) was conferred with the Bhababinodia award. The chief guest felicitated Kanduri with a cap, a scarf and a bouquet. Gurudatta Nayak and troupe performed a devotional song programme. Sahitya Samaj secretary Lalatendu Senapati coordinated the programme and treasurer Pratap Pattnaik proposed a vote of thanks.
Puri Bharat Vikas Parishad observes Women’s Day
Puri: On the occasion the International Women’s Day, the Bharat Vikas Parishad Shree Jagannath Dham branch, Puri organised a health checkup camp here on Thursday. The camp was inaugurated by Puri Municipality Chairman Jayant Kumar Sarangi. About 80 senior citizens were provided medical checkup on bone mineral density test and BMI. Former Gopabandhu Ayurvedic College Principal Dr NC Dash, Dr SN Pati, Padmanav Panda, Supriti Rath, Budhadev Mohapatra and Purna Chandra Khuntia were present. Students of Tourism Department of Sikkim University also attended the camp.
Daya Jyoti’s Basantotsaba concludes in Puri Puri: The “Basantotsaba-2018” organised by the Daya Jyoti concluded here on Saturday. Professor Krushna Chandra Mishra attended the festival as chief guest. The winners of different competitions like Bohu Chori, painting, poetry and Odishi were felicitated. The objective of the programme was to promote values such as national unity, national consciousness and self-respect and creating love among each other to become civilised citizens of the nation.
Man held for killing brother in JSpur
Jagatsinghpur: Police on Friday arrested one Prakash Bhoi of Chekamala village under Biridi block for killing his brother Sagar Bhoi over a property dispute on March 5. Basing on the deceased’s wife Arati’s complaint, the Biridi police had started investigation into the case. The accused had been absconding. Prakash was later forwarded to court.
State Safety Award for PPL
Bhubaneswar: Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) General Manager (Production) Pranab Bhattacharya and, DGM (Fire & Safety) Nihar Kanti Rout received the State Safety Award for ‘Best Performance in Accident Prevention for Safety Management & Communication’ for 2016 from Labour Minister Sushant Singh in the presence of Labour Secretary Anu Garg here on Saturday.
