Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao on Sunday said the Government was contemplating organising adventure sports like trekking in the Kondapalli forest area.
He was addressing a gathering in connection with ‘Women Confidence Challenge’ organised by the Vijayawada chapter of Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) on the hill opposite Siddhartha Arts College. Over 40 girls and women, aged between 4 and 60 years, participated in rappelling and rock-climbing activities carried out under the expert guidance of the members of Adventure Club of Andhra Pradesh.
Heaping praises on the participants, the Minister said it was heartening to see the fairer sex showcasing its exceptional skills in adventure sports.
Collector B. Lakshmikantham, who flagged off the event, said such sports could help women stay fit and if women are fit, their families would be healthy thus contributing to a healthy society. He said activities like trekking and rappelling in mountains far away from the madding city crowd could be a great source of rejuvenating.
YHAI Vijayawada unit chairman N. Vishnu Vardhan coordinated the event while Machavaram Circle Inspector Sahera Begum monitored the arrangements. The association’s State president Velaga Joshi, complimented the participants.
