Broncos' Miller bullish on pursuing QB Cousins
With the official start of free agency on the horizon this week, Von Miller has Kirk Cousins high on his wish list, viewing the quarterback as a great potential addition to the Denver Broncos.
"I'm all in 100 percent," Miller told NFL.com over the weekend. "This is a big time for Denver and a big time for the National Football League. You don't really have, especially quarterbacks, become free like that."
Free agency reminds Miller, the linebacker who recently completed his seventh pro season, of his days being wooed out of DeSoto, Texas, and then attending Texas A&M.
"It's kind of like college again," he said. "You got an athlete coming to your school and you want to try your best to get them there. And that's the same thing with us. We would really like to have Kirk. ... But there are a lot of great teams out there with large pocket books. So we'll have to just wait and see. But I'll have to give him the ultimate spiel on why Denver is special to me."
Cousins, 29, is coming off his sixth pro season and third as a full-time starter. With 81 touchdown passes and more than 13,000 yards over the past three seasons, he'll attract considerable attention in a quarterback-driven league.
The attention may raise his asking price beyond what the Broncos are willing or able to pay. If that's the case, Miller expects vice president and general manager John Elway to come up with other options for improving the Broncos, who are looking to turn it around after a 5-11 season.
"You always have your plan B and C," Miller said. "We have great direction with the Denver Broncos -- I said it 50 million times. (John) Elway is as good as it gets. Whatever (direction) he takes this organization in I'm with him. We're tied to the hip forever. "
