Free dialysis for chronic patients: Min

| | BHUBANESWAR | in Bhubaneswar

Dialysis facilities would be provided free of cost to chronic kidney disease patients in every District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in the State, said Health & Family Welfare Minister Pratap Kumar Jena on Saturday.

He was inaugurating a South Asian conference on nephrology at the KIMS here.

Jena said the State Government has decided to provide free dialysis facilities to chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients in all District Headquarter Hospitals. In this regard, the Government has started work in 15 DHHs, he said.

The main causes of kidney disease, which is non-communicable, are high blood pressure and diabetes. So, the Government has started a NCD (non-communicable diseases) programme in 15 districts for screening of NCD patients. These patients would be provided treatment and medicines free of cost, the Minister said.

Sambad editor Soumyaranjan Patnaik also addressed the conference, which was presided over by KIIT University VC Prof HK Mohanty.
